ELECTRIC AND GAS UTILITY

AmerenIllinois

AmerenIllinois, an operating unit of Ameren Corporation is one of the suppliers of electricity and natural gas to citizens and businesses within Franklin County.

Ameren offers a comprehensive approach to its customers' economic development needs. Ameren's economic development team brings decades of experience to the region's requirements for expertise in economic development, engineering, operations, urban and rural planning and site development.

Site Selection magazine named Ameren one of the nation's top utilities in 2007. Specifically, the publication was recognizing leaders in the area of capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita, and jobs per 10,000 in population. In a broader sense, Site Selection was gauging the ability of utilities to complement power delivery with persuasion and innovation in creating a culture for corporate investment.

Southeastern Illinois Electrical Co-Op

SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative , Inc., is an electric power distribution system owned and controlled by its members. As a cooperatively owned private enterprise business, it operates on a not-for-profit basis and must have sufficient returns to make principal and interest payments on loans and to maintain the system in the proper condition to assure dependable service. All revenues, over and above the cost of doing business each year, are allocated to the members under a "capital credit" plan.

Organized in 1938 for the purpose of making electricity available to rural areas, SouthEastern Illinois Electric Cooperative has grown steadily and now serves over 23,000 accounts through some 3,500 miles of power line. Because the Cooperative is locally owned by its members, each member has an equal voice in conducting business at an annual meeting.
