Higher Education
Franklin County residents enjoy higher education opportunities at their front door and at their back door, as well. The county is located minutes from Southern Illinois University, one of the nation's leading institutions of higher learning. Students are even closer to two of the region's top community colleges, Rend Lake College in Ina and John A. Logan College in Carterville.
Southern Illinois University, a leading research university with influence that extends around the globe, enrolls students from every state in the United States and from over 100 countries. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching ranks SIU among the top five percent of all U.S. higher education institutions for research. SIU offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs as well as professional degrees in medicine and law.
Rend Lake College, recognized as the nation's fastest growing community college, enrolls nearly 5,000 students at its campus in Ina on the north shore of Rend Lake.
John A. Logan College, ranked recently as the fifth best community college in the nation, has a student body of almost 7,500 on its campus in Carterville.
